Learn about the background and experience of William B. Fletcher, a prominent lawyer in Sebring, Florida. Bill Fletcher was born and raised in the Lakeland Highlands in Polk County, Florida. He received his education at Summerlin Institute, which is now known as Bartow High School. After graduating with honors from Polk Community College, now Polk State College, in Winter Haven, Florida, Bill was selected for Who’s Who in American Junior College. He then pursued his Bachelor of Science degree at Florida State University, graduating in 1968. Continuing his education, Bill attended the Florida State University College of Law and graduated with honors in 1973. During his time in law school, Bill worked at the Lawyer General’s Office, focusing on handling criminal appeals for the State of Florida. He also played a role in revising the tenure of the Florida County Commissioners Manual and authored the chapter on Home Rule. Starting his career as a part-time Polk County Lawyer and part-time public defender in Polk County, Bill\s passion for trial practice led him to become a full-time public defender. He successfully tried 23 jury trials and numerous non-jury trials during his tenure. In December 1975, Bill became the Chief Assistant Prosecutor for Highlands County, where he handled 45 jury trials and over a hundred non-jury trials. Since 1978, Bill has been in private practice, specializing in criminal, family, and civil trial practice for many years, with a focus on criminal trial practice in the last decade. His experience includes trying cases ranging from 1st degree murders to misdemeanor offenses, both as a prosecutor and defense attorney. Bill is an active member of the Highlands County Bar Association and the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Throughout his career, Bill has had the privilege of working alongside the late Jack Edmund, esq., a renowned defense attorney in Polk County.
