Ms. Funderburg received her bachelor of science and juris doctorate degrees from the University of Illinois, where she was also awarded the prestigious Charles E. Merriam Scholarship. After completing her formal legal studies in 1981, she joined the law office of Craig & Craig in Coles County, Illinois, eventually becoming a partner in 1988. During her time as Assistant City Lawyer for the City of Champaign from 1988 to 1996, she gained valuable experience in municipal law.

She has been a member of the Coles County Business and Professional Women and has received recognition for her contributions, including the Young Career Woman Award in 1984.
