He was the Chairman of the American Bar Association Family Law Section in 1988-1989 and has received several prestigious awards throughout his career, including the American Family Law Section Highest Award for Distinction in 1999 and the American Bar Association Allies for Justice Award in 1999. In addition to his legal practice, Richard J. Podell is also an accomplished author, having written numerous articles on divorce law. He is a frequent lecturer on family law, both in the United States and internationally, including in Canada, England, Ireland, and Northern Ireland.
