He began his legal career as a State Counsel in the Chambers of the Lawyer General of Guyana, where he served from 1979 to 1984. During this time, he represented the Government of Guyana in both the High Court of Guyana and the Guyana Court of Appeal, gaining valuable experience in trial and appellate practice. In September 1986, Mahendra Mohanlal Ramgopal was admitted to practice as a Lawyer and Counsellor at Law in New York State. He further expanded his practice by gaining admission to the Southern and Eastern Districts Federal Courts in New York in 1987. His impressive legal career continued to grow, as he was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States on May 26th, 1992, with a motion by the Solicitor General of the United States, the Honorable Kenneth Winston Starr. Additionally, in 2002, he was admitted to practice before the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals. From 1986 to 2013, Mahendra Mohanlal Ramgopal focused predominantly on criminal law in New York City, where he was a member of the Indigent Defense Panel. However, he also engaged in the general practice of law, including immigration, matrimonial, and real estate law. In 2013, he made the decision to relocate to Stuart, Florida, where he now primarily practices immigration law.
