Thompson earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Kentucky College of Law. After graduating, she clerked for U.S. Magistrate Judge Edward B. Atkins in Pikeville, Kentucky. During her time as a clerk, she gained valuable experience in legal research and writing, as well as exposure to federal criminal and civil litigation.
Her career took off when she joined the U.S. Department of Justice as an Assistant United States Lawyer for the Eastern District of Kentucky in London. In this role, she managed complex investigations involving wiretaps and led prosecutions of drug conspiracies and organized crime.
