Born and raised in Odessa, Texas, Jim graduated from Permian High School in 1978 and went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his BBA in Petroleum Land Management in 1983. Following his undergraduate studies, Jim pursued his law degree at the University of Texas Law School, graduating in 1986. After law school, Jim joined the United States Marine Corps, serving as a Judge Advocate General. It was during his time in the Marines that Jim developed a passion for the courtroom and a strong desire to become a trial lawyer. Upon being honorably discharged from the Marines in 1990, Jim returned to Austin and began working at the firm of Ford & Ferraro (now Fritz, Byrne, Head and Gilstrap), where he represented insurance companies and their insureds in various cases, with a focus on personal injury law. In 1996, Jim decided to venture out on his own as a solo practitioner, representing individuals (plaintiffs) in cases against insurance companies and their insureds. For the past 22 years, Jim has dedicated his practice to representing plaintiffs.
