Learn about Denice Von Gnechten, a skilled lawyer with a diverse background in law and a passion for helping families in transition. J. Denice (Payne) von Gnechten was born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina, where her family still resides. Growing up in this close-knit community, Denice developed a deep understanding of the challenges that families face during difficult times, such as separation and divorce. After graduating from East Burke High School, Denice pursued her higher education at the University of Denver before transferring to the University of San Diego. She also had the opportunity to study abroad in Oxford, U.K., where she further expanded her knowledge and experiences. In 1989, Denice graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Following her undergraduate studies, Denice worked as a litigation paralegal in various cities, including Denver, San Diego, Charlotte, and Hilo, Hawaii. Her passion for the legal field led her to pursue a law degree at the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii. During her time in law school, Denice served as the Research Editor of The Law Review and graduated with her Juris Doctorate degree in 1997. She then became a member of the Hawaii State Bar Association. Throughout her legal career, Denice has gained valuable experience in different areas of law. She started her practice as a litigator at Goodsill, Anderson, Quinn & Stifel in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she worked on defending the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard against asbestos claims. Denice is also a member of the Christian Legal Society and served as the president of the Hawaii chapter during her time in the islands. In 2004, Denice returned to her roots in North Carolina and became a member of the North Carolina and Mecklenburg County Bar Associations. She established her own practice in downtown Charlotte, where she takes on cases and serves as a certified mediator in multiple counties, including Burke, Cabarrus, Caldwell, Catawba, and Union. Denice is admitted to practice law in the NC State and Federal Courts, as well as in the U.S. Fourth Circuit. With 29 years of marriage and three beautiful daughters, Denice Von Gnechten brings a unique perspective and a compassionate approach to her legal practice, making her a trusted advocate for her clients.
